Drs. Hendrik M.J. Arnoldus
Hendrik M.J. Arnoldus, a Dutch citizen, is a retired United Nations Official. As a Unesco officer first and an FAO soil conservation officer next, he was involved in major global projects such as: “Soil Map of the World”, “A World Assessment of Soil Degradation”, “Desertification Assessment and Mapping” and “Land Resources for Populations of the Future”. In this connection, he (co)authored over 10 well received publications about soil conservation, desertification and land evaluation. (You can find a non-exhaustive list of publications here). During this period he worked on various mathematical models regarding land degradation and desertification, which got him involved with Information Technology. As a result, he became the designer and manager of a departmental computer system and, later-on designed some aspects of Intranets. After retirement, he has continued to occupy himself with Web design, and has also found some time to combine a life-long interest in (macro)photography with digital technology.
